Traveling to Seville, Spain - Nov, 2014

Seville, Spain

My dear husband had a conference in Seville, Spain and I decided to tag along.  Luckily, I was able to get the time off of work.  Now, just for the record,  I was not particularly interested in traveling in Spain (my dream has been Italy), but I thought "what the heck".

Little did I know that Spain, and Seville, is so fabulous!!!  It is just a beautiful place, very scenic and easy to get around the touristy areas.  It would be a good place to visit if you were new to traveling because of this.  It would also be a good place for honeymooners as it is so beautiful and picture perfect!  For me, since I was on my own pretty much during the day, it was perfect, so lovely and I can't wait to go back!

Seville has a population of close to 700,000.  Although it feels much smaller.  It is the capital of the Andalusia region and is known for flamenco dance, it's old neighborhoods and castles and of course the tapas!

Here are my first shots of Seville.  Just a block away from our hotel, and within sight is this incredible Plaza de Espana, built for the World Exposition in 1928.

We thought that the front and inside was spectacular!
No, exploring the courtyard in the back makes your jaw drop!

Picture perfect!
The ceramic details are incredible!

And then I was able to find and explore the flea market.  There is some history here!
Calle Feria is a weekly flea market that has been held here for hundreds and hundreds of years.
On Thursdays, the vendors bring their wares and the public sifts through the junk to find the gems.
Such Fun!

I came home with a small antique, green
glass wine bottle.  For 8 Euro.  Carry-on!
I wanted this carved wood dragon.
But there were two problems.
One, too expensive.  And two, it would
not fit in the suitcase!

So much to find!
Interesting building across from the
flea market.

The tiny windy alleyways were beautiful!

Yum, I SO love a burger.  I did not try it though.
Too many tapas, so little time!

Someone is tired.

The pool at our hotel.  With Plaza de Espana in background.
Unfortunately, it was just a bit too chilly to hang out poolside.

We  left to go wander that evening.  Heading towards the old downtown, touristy area, we passed through the university, which used to be a huge tobacco factory.

One of the main drags near the University and the Old Town.
Lots of people hanging out in the cafes and right on a train route.

There were so many doorways to look into.  There are little courtyards in most of these places.

The Alcazar.  This palace will be explored in
the next day or two!

Every corner that you came around, the scenery was just incredible!

We decided to stop at this lovely plaza, rest on the steps and listen to the wonderful acoustics from this local guitar player.  Magical.
