We went from snow in Aberdeen, WA (in the middle of Feb 2014) to sunshine and bright blue skies in Tunis, Tunisia. We came to visit for a week during a school break so that Mark could get started with the new staff and we could get a feel for the new culture and job.
We were not apprehensive, just excited. Once we made the decision to go, I could not have made the time go fast enough. My best friend in Aberdeen, Linda, passed away suddenly in May after being ill for a few months with lung cancer. And that same month, we gave away my dog Hank, who I adored beyond words. The packing and selling and discarding process was horrible, I watched everything that I "loved" and accumulated being given to someone else! I was ready for and needed a huge change. And a huge change is what I got!
This was our first view of Tunisia in the daylight, in Feb 2014, out of the hotel room. We stayed at the Golden Tulip, which is a 5 star hotel by local standards. We were amazed at just how blue the sky is and how much greenery was around. It is not the desert with sand and scrub brush that one thinks about when thinking of Africa. But then again, we are right on the Mediterranean.
We got a sneak peak at our house while we visited in Feb. Unfortunately, they must have drugged the Whooper next door when we visited. More on that later. The house is large, modern and quite lovely. Most everything worked very well, it is secure and we felt comfortable moving in. We shipped over soooo many extra suitcases so we had clothing, linens, and necessities to last for months. The house comes furnished, it is just our job to add the extras.
So we said goodbye to family and friends, had a great last month in Montana, Oregon and Port Townsend, WA. And we were off on our adventure...
I cannot find all my photos yet, so I still need to add more Decker and then my family photos. I will get the Flemings and the Browns added!
