Tabarka, Tunisia.
A remote border town on the northern coast of Tunisia, just across the border from Algeria. On the Mediterranean, with an ancient fort/castle as a bit of eye candy, but still known for it's remoteness and the fact that the Algerian border is less than 10 miles away. You can sometimes see Sicily on a very clear day.

On the road to Tabarka, you can see many stork's nests
on the tops of various buildings and tall towers.

Beautiful agricultural area. |
Lake Ichkeul is a well known sight for the migratory birds to nest on their travels. |
Fresh honey being sold along side the road. |
The view from our hotel room at the fort across the bay on a small peninsula. |
Lovely older hotel: Mimosa. The hotel rooms need some TLC, but the view is spectacular! |
We are off to explore the imposing fort on the hill. We did not realize that it is actually "closed" to visitors. We knocked on the door and the watchman came out. We paid a few dinar and got a sneak peak of this beautiful fort.
Looking back into town, you can see the amphitheater where they hold their annual jazz concerts in the late summer. |
What a view! |
